This is a Provocator or Challenger class gladiator from the 1th century. He is wearing a helmet, a belt with a loin-cloth, a forearm band, a full-arm guard (Manica) and a metal shoulder guard (Galerus), a padded greave and knee high sandals. He is standing in an A-pose.
The equipment of the Provocator class gladiator included breastplate called Cardiophylax, a sword called Gladius and a huge oval shield called Clipeus.
This is one of the oldest types of gladiators.
The difference from the Gladius or Scutum gladiator is the shield that protects the chest.
